One of the few moments that Rachel was walking/running:
When there was only a 1/4 of the way left to go, everyone gave up waiting for me and Katie. We slowly meandered our way to the top, just the two of us. They tell you not to stop in sections where they have painted a red line, because of the rock slide danger. Katie and I happened to be hiking right along with one of the Rangers. Katie was at a point where she was throwing absolute fits if I tried to carry her, and would only continue to walk up hill (as opposed to turning and going back down) if I gave her a fruit snack to hold/eat. So, as we slowly meandered up the mountain, occasionally, Katie would let go of my hand, stop walking, pull out a fruit snack, pop it in her mouth, take my hand again, and then continue walking. The ranger scolded me multiple times for stopping where there was a red line. Right. Like waiting for her to get a fruit snack is really increasing our chances of being hit by a rock slide. Could he not see how slow we were moving when we were NOT stopped?
Once up in the caves, it was a nice balmy temperature and we were able to cool off. It was really cool thing to see and experience, but not particularly kid friendly. Any time the kids touched a rock that was right there by them, the guide shined his flashlight on them and said "Don't touch that!" Nice.
Katie LOOOOVED the caves!!! I took a little bit of video. It's dark and you can't see anything, but you can hear some of Katie's excitement!
