FOCA needs some changes

I do not know each of your personal beliefs on abortion and how lenient or strict abortion laws should be, however, I do ask that each of you take the time to read this entire thing. I am hoping that it will be informative and persuade you to act in whatever manner you find necessary.

As you may know, President Obama has promised Planned Parenthood that the “first thing” he would do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). Obviously, this act must pass congress first. President Obama states that FOCA is meant to protect Roe v. Wade, however, in reality it undermines it. Roe v. Wade established clear limits on abortion, which limits would be erased by FOCA. Roe v. Wade provides rights for a baby who has reached the age of viability (about 25 weeks gestation) as well as babies who have entered the birth canal. FOCA does not provide rights for a baby (or fetus, if you prefer) at any stage. So you must ask yourself: at what point do you believe a child becomes a human and has rights to fair medical treatment? Not until they are 18 and can vote? Honestly, when do they deserve protection? Because they are given NONE at any point, by FOCA AS IT IS NOW.

FOCA states that a woman has the right to “to terminate a pregnancy after fetal viability when necessary to protect the life or health of the woman.” (italics added).

Now, this may sound all well and good. The problem is that “health” is a very general term. What does it mean? Physical health? Mental health? Emotional or spiritual health? It doesn’t specify, which means that AS IT STANDS NOW, all of those give a legal right to terminate a pregnancy NO MATTER HOW FAR ALONG IT IS. Have you ever been pregnant? I have. Let me tell you: it is NOT good for your health. Just a list of some of the ailments I myself experienced: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, weight loss, weight gain, headaches, heartburn, back aches, rashes, gum disease, and moodiness. All of these are “health” issues which were pregnancy related and AS IT STANDS NOW all of these are legitimate reason for a late term or partial birth abortion, according to FOCA.

So, please ask yourself, is this the law that is right to pass? Do you believe that late term abortion should be allowed for spiritual health? Or just physical? Do you believe that a late term abortion should be allowed simply because of moodiness? Or not unless the person is suicidal? Do you believe that late term abortions should be allowed simply because of back aches? Or not unless it’s serious like paralysis? If you believe that abortion should be limited IN ANY WAY,  please write your congressman and let him know EXACTLY what changes should be made before FOCA is ready to be made into law.

PLEASE take the time to think about what limitations you personally believe should be placed on abortion, and WRITE TO YOUR CONGRESSMAN!

Thank you very much for your time and your willingness to stand up for what you believe in.

Shannon

If people only knew what really happens to those babies, how it's done and how easy it is to just throw life away. Thanks for the post. Such a heartbreaking issue!
We need a change/resolution and fast.....so scary think what "might" happen.
